Syaza Shukri is an Associate Professor and political scientist at the International Islamic University of Malaysia. Her area of specialisation is in comparative politics, specifically in political Islam and democratisation in the Middle East and Southeast Asia, with recent focus on her home country of Malaysia. Her most recent book is published in October 2024 by Palgrave Macmillan titled Elite Populism and Malay Leaders in Malaysia. She is a visiting fellow at the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute in Singapore, a non-resident research fellow at the European Centre for Populism Studies and a visiting fellow at KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific.
