Anxiety and OCD in Adolescents and Adults with Down Syndrome Workshop

Several mental health conditions are more common in people with Down syndrome compared to people without Down syndrome. In this webinar, Brian Chicoine, MD, will discuss anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) in adolescents and adults with Down syndrome. He will share information about prevalence as well as describe symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of these conditions. Case studies will be presented and discussed.

Brian Chicoine, MD, is the Medical Director of the Advocate Medical Group Adult Down Syndrome Center, which is located in Park Ridge, a suburb of Chicago, in Illinois. He is on the faculty of Family Medicine at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. He received his medical degree from Loyola University of Chicago Stritch School of Medicine and completed his Family Medicine residency at Lutheran General Hospital. In 1992, Dr. Chicoine co-founded the Adult Down Syndrome Center, which has served and documented the health and psychosocial needs of over 6000 adolescents and adults with Down syndrome since its inception. Dr. Chicoine has provided medical care for adults with intellectual disabilities for over 30 years and has presented and written extensively on caring for adults with Down syndrome.

Attendees are advised that statistics, life experiences and challenges associated with living with Down syndrome may be discussed, which may be triggering or confronting for some participants. We encourage all attendees to priorities self care, and note that participants are free to leave the event at any time.
