Event description

Want to spend a lazy summer afternoon in a sunny field taking in awesome live music, supping on a locally brewed bevvie and chowing down on some delicious food?

Aotea Brewing Summer Sessions are back!

We have two amazing gigs scheduled for our summer crew:

Monday 29th December

We have duo Marmalade and locally adored Floorplay to start celebrating the new year early.

Jemilah & Koen are the duo from Auckland-based band Marmalade. Swinging somewhere between folk-pop and indie-rock, their honest lyricism floats above laid-back acoustic guitars and delicious harmonies to create a juicy jar full of sounds. From open-air rooftop concerts in Auckland, to secret showcases in Wellington, and of course, the kiwi-classic Interislander show, Marmalade has captivated audiences all over Aotearoa with their stripped-back folk-duo sound.

FLOORPLAY are a collective of master improvisers fusing electronic beats with live instrumentation. Known for creating music completely in the moment, FLOORPLAY deliver an ever evolving experience that blurs the line between DJ set and live performance. Loyal to funk, jungle, & disco/house, FLOORPLAY’s mixers - Mat O'Sullivan & WAVRUNNR - are wrapped in the live guitar licks & synth textures of Felix Faisandier, and topped with the deep vocal dexterity of Hana Judd.

Sunday 4th January

We are stoked to bring MĀ to the motu

Somewhere between a singer, rapper, spoken word poet, beatmaker, producer, and bandleader, is an autodidact Māori musician and artist from Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Aotearoa.

Since releasing her self-produced debut album, Breakfast With Hades, she has been celebrated by Radio New Zealand, Rolling Stone, and Vice, toured with Avantdale Bowling Club, and opened for Ice Cube, Souls of Mischief, Clear Path Ensemble, and Homebrew.

Over the last three years, MĀ has won over audiences around her home country with a distinctly Indigenous blend of abstract downtempo rap, DIY neo-soul, and lush ambient music. Born from grief, self-love, and an attentive awareness of the natural world, her songs value te taiao, whakapapa, manaakitanga, humour, and emotional honesty.

Details:

As always, these are whanau friendly gigs where minors are welcome but need to be supervised by a parent or legal guardian.

Buy tickets for both gigs together or for groups of four and save.

Summer Session partners

We couldn't pull these off on a remote island without support!

We have been hosting gigs at the brewery for the last 6 years and we could not have made any of it happen without the ongoing support of Barrier Air to get our musicians to the motu!

We are stoked to have Aotea Audio working with us to make sure we do justice to those beautiful tunes.
