Film Description:

A rigorous artistic vision that leans into cinema’s ability to create empathy, YOU SLEEP STAY seeks to convey the resonances of a deaf, intellectually and developmentally disabled senior citizen who’s lived in a large State institution for over 70 years -- and now has to move. Exploring his experience of time, community, and language, the feature-length documentary is a story of home and family, of brothers and responsibility, and of the role filmmakers play in participating in reality—not just reflecting it. The first documentary made in a U.S. institution for the developmentally disabled in 50 years, YOU SLEEP STAY transforms filmmaking into a communication machine -- celebrating Fred's unique language, immersing audiences in his universe, and highlighting society’s failure to provide adequate resources for his community.
