Event description

Ako is a traditional Māori value and cultural practice that means both 'to learn' and 'to teach'. In this way, a kaiako/teacher is predominantly the teacher, but at times can be a learner, and an ākonga/learner is predominantly a learner, but can also be a teacher at times.

Conceptualised as a contemporary learning and teaching methodology in tertiary education, ako is similar to the reciprocal learning and teaching methodology. This practice occurs between people who are sharing skills and knowledge.

Topics covered

  • Ako as a contemporary learning and teaching methodology.
