Risingholme Orchestra presents Aranjuez!
Event description
Risingholme Orchestra invites you to our concert Aranjuez!, centred on Joaquín Rodrigo’s celebrated guitar concerto Concierto de Aranjuez which features internationally recognised guitarist Matthew Marshall as soloist.
The most substantial of the remaining programmed works is Eric Satie’s Parade: a suite of contrasting pieces composed to accompany a ballet of the same name, written for Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes and premiered in Paris in 1917.
Our roll-call of European composers is rounded off with Rimsky-Korsakov’s Neapolitan Song: his orchestral arrangement of the deservedly popular Italian song "Funiculì, Funiculà".
From our own shores we highlight two orchestral works: Kenneth Young’s gently-meandering “Two Sentimental Miniatures” for solo guitar, harp and strings; and Philip Norman’s colourfully-scored The Dancer, based on Latin-American rhythms and jazz harmonies.
