Tax season can feel overwhelming, especially if you're lodging your first tax return in Australia. Join Arc Savers and the UNSW Tax Clinic for a practical workshop designed to help students understand the fundamentals of income tax, tax returns, and financial wellbeing.

Whether you're working casually, part-time, or juggling multiple jobs while studying, this session will walk you through the key tax concepts every student should know. You'll learn how the Australian tax system works, common tax obligations, and the steps involved in lodging your tax return with confidence.

The workshop will also explore the financial support services available to students and provide practical guidance to help you maximise your tax refund while avoiding common mistakes.

You’ll learn:

📋 TFN vs ABN: Understand the difference between a Tax File Number and Australian Business Number, and when you may need each one.

📝 Employment Paperwork Made Easy: Learn how to complete a Tax File Number Declaration and understand important tax-related employment documents.

🎓 Medicare Levy Exemption: Find out how eligible international students can apply for a Medicare Levy Exemption Certificate.

💰 Lodging Your Tax Return: Follow a step-by-step overview of the tax return process in Australia and learn what information you'll need to prepare.

📊 Tax Deductions & Refunds: Discover common deductions students may be eligible to claim and how to avoid errors that could impact your refund.

💰 Know Your Income: Explore where your money comes from and understand the difference between regular and irregular income.

🔎 Spot What Needs Attention: Identify transactions or records you may want to organise, review or ask about before tax time.

📅 Create Your Monthly Financial Date: Build a simple 20-minute monthly routine to check your money, plan upcoming expenses and keep your financial admin organised.

🤝 Know Your Support: Learn where to access tax support, Financial Counselling and other financial wellbeing services available to UNSW students.
