We warmly invite you to view Lee Trewartha’s 14th Solo Exhibition ‘Arcadia and the Baroque Imagination’ showcasing a collection of oil paintings and charcoal, carbon and graphite drawings, reflecting a vision of the natural world, where formal gardens, botanical subjects and landscapes are explored with astute observation and invention.
The artist perceptively plays with sensual light, like a sculptural presence, it both illuminates and enlivens the landscapes. Lee’s unique expression of lush green tones and intricate mark making, transform the viewer to a terrain that feels both earthly and dreamlike.
Her meditative works hold the symbolic power to satisfy our instinctive desire to observe nature’s splendour, balance and grace. There is a heightened sense of Baroque theatricality within this landscape series, initially observed in the striking interplay of light and shadow in her dynamic compositions. Lee’s classical sculptural figures which feature in both curated garden settings and natural environments, achieve a dramatic effect and entice the viewer to further engage with the visual narrative.

About the Artist
Lee Trewartha is an Australian visual artist who was honoured with the National Gallery of Victoria Trustees Award for artistic excellence. She has received numerous academic accolades and has been a finalist in many prestigious Australian art prizes. Her works have been highlighted in articles in Vogue Australia, Australian House and Garden Magazine and The Age. Throughout her highly successful career, spanning over three decades, she has exhibited in Australia, USA and China. Her work is represented in both public and private art collections.
