Are we planning Brisbane...or assessing it one application at a time?
Description
Brisbane needs more homes. We need more affordable housing, more housing choice and more places for people to call home.
But we also need to get planning right.
Recent planning decisions have had people asking me why developments are approved despite overwhelming community opposition? Why do some buildings exceed local height limits? Where's the infrastructure to support our growing population? And how do we protect the heritage, green spaces and places that make our suburbs special?
Surely we can build more homes without losing sight of what makes a great community.
I've brought together a fantastic panel to unpack how planning decisions are made, whether our current system is working, and what better planning for Brisbane could look like.
Joining me are:
Amy Marsden – Director of Planning, Therefor Group
Dr Andrew Sneddon – Director, Extent Heritage
Dr Rachel Gallagher – Housing and planning researcher, Griffith University
Aiden Ameer – Local Bushcare coordinator, urban planning student and public transport enthusiast
