These classes are designed to help students develop creative thought, inspire imagination, encourage self-expression and foster artistic potential.

What will be covered in this course?

Throughout the term, we discover the world of art through a variety of themes: landscape, portraiture, abstract painting, still life, figurative art and more. Each week students will create an artwork in a different medium. They will learn how to use charcoal, graphite, watercolour, chalk pastels, oil pastels, colour pencils, acrylic paints and collage.

These classes are designed with the home schooled children in mind. With a student-led class design and access to a library of materials, students will feel inspired to try new things and encouraged to bring their ideas to life!

By the end of this course students will:

Have a good understanding of all the major drawing mediums and how to use them to create engaging works of art. Students will be familiar with the elements of art (line, shape, form, space, value, colour and texture) and how to use them to create effective works of art. Students will begin to understand the principles of design (Contrast, balance, emphasis, proportion, hierarchy, repetition, rhythm, pattern, space, movement, variety and unity) and their importance in creating engaging works. Students will finish the course with a number of completed works in various mediums.

ABOUT THE TUTOR

Jess is a professional artist, face painter and published author. She has exhibited and sold her works both locally and internationally. She studied a Bachelor of Fine Art and has a Diploma of Visual Arts at Tafe NSW. She has been working with children and teaching the arts for over 5 years. She founded Woolgoolga Art School in 2023, is a professional face painter on the weekends and runs private Paint & Sip parties. In her personal arts practise she primarily works with acrylic paints, graphite, charcoal & pastels, depicting the human form. As a mental health advocate, Jess is passionate about the therapeutic benefits of art making. She has a certificate in Art Therapy and her approach to teaching is a mixture of technical tuition, encouraging creative experimentation and building self esteem. Her classes focus on establishing the foundations of art theory and then applying that knowledge to artworks.
