DROP IN: Taglietti Sketchout - with Urban Sketchers Canberra at Dickson Library
Event description
Join Urban Sketchers Canberra for a special sketchout event at the iconic Dickson Library, designed by renowned Italian-Australian architect Enrico Taglietti. Participants will capture the distinctive architecture of this heritage-listed building that brought Italian design flair to Canberra's public spaces.
This free public event offers a unique opportunity to observe and sketch one of Taglietti's most celebrated civil works while connecting with fellow drawing enthusiasts. No experience necessary—just bring your sketchbook and drawing materials!
The sketchout serves as a lead-up event to CMAG's highly anticipated "Enrico Taglietti: Life in Design" exhibition opening June 7th, which will run for 8 months. This major exhibition celebrates the architect's significant contribution to Canberra's architectural landscape. Contemporary sketches created during the event will be displayed onscreen at CMAG and online throughout the exhibition period.
Dickson Library, designed in 1968 for the National Capital Development Commission, represents a turning point in Canberra's design history. The building's free-form construction and distinctive "piazzetta" walled gardens exemplify Taglietti's unique architectural vision.
Urban Sketchers is a global non-profit network connecting artists across 500+ cities in 70 countries who draw on location to capture their surroundings. Urban Sketchers Canberra hosts regular sketchouts on the second Sunday of each month. For more information, visit their Facebook page here.
*Note: Dickson Library opens at 12 noon, after the sketchout concludes.*
