Art Exhibition Opening - Lines of Flight
Event description
This unique exhibition brings together 4 members of the Westacott family showcasing their creativity and diversity together for the first time. Primarily focusing on Marguerite’s Art-led PhD Research related artwork and investigation, Lines Of Flight also features the highly accomplished glassmaking by Jonathon Westacott, as well as a selection of prints and paintings by their daughter Marijah, and backed on opening night by the contemporary electronic sounds of son Elye. A special exhibition not to be missed.
Marguerite is a current PhD student at the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC), using art-led methods to privilege aesthetic and visual ways of knowing. Her process driven art making is exploring concepts from the field of futures studies, and their implications for alternative approaches to career curriculum in higher education. Her supervisors are Dr Marcus Bussey and Dr Trudi Flynn (UniSC).
Encompassing 40 Years of Glassmaking, Jonathon studied Visual Arts at Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga and completed a Hot Glass traineeship at the Jam Factory Art and Craft Centre, Adelaide. Jonathon’s artwork captures the essence of Australia’s wilderness, drawing on the Nouvea Period and landscapists of the 19th century
Marijah is currently studying fine arts at the Queensland College of Art & Design (QCAD) at Griffith University. During her studies she has been the recipient of two studio internships (Greyhound Press & Cobalt Editions) and her artwork was acquired by the State Library of Queensland as an addition to their artists’ books collection (2024)
Elye is a classically trained musician with a love of the acoustic guitar. Performing solo on the Sunshine Coast for 10 years he has turned his focus to contemporary electronic music
