ART for BEGINNERS – Drawing and Painting
In this hands-on course you will experience the basics of drawing and painting in a range of different mediums. A relaxing, fun and creative 6 weeks to assist you find your creative self and experiment with methods and materials in a safe and supportive environment.
No prior experience necessary. High school students in Year 9 and above are welcome to join this class.
Attend all 6 sessions or only one- the choice is yours!
Course Outline
Week 1- 12 February- Anyone Can Draw
Focus: Observation, line, shape and form, mark making – variety of still life and observation
Week 2- 19 February- Sketching- Ink and Wash
Focus: Composition, proportion, perspective, colour and mark marking – fruit, florals, buildings, travel sketching
Week 3- 26 February- Intro to Watercolours
Focus: Introduction to watercolour painting techniques, dry brush, wet on wet, special effects
Week 4- 5 March- Watercolour Techniques
Focus: Colour mixing and composition, tone
There will be no class Saturday 12 March
Week 5- 18 March- Intro to Acrylics
Focus: Introduction to acrylic paint application and brushes, colour wheel, colour theory, warm and cool colours, limited palette
Week 6- 26 March- Expressive Acrylics
Focus: Composition, expressive techniques, loose, free and bold
