Art in the City | 'A People's Art'

Event description

Join us for another Art in the City affair - 'A People's Art' at the historic North Adelaide Baptist Church Hall.

The Counter-Reformation sought to use the role assigned to the arts to appeal to the masses in a way that displayed religious works in a simple, clear, and realistic interpretation. The deliberations of the Council of Trent concluded that the art of the Baroque era had a precise reason and focus for art: to draw out emotion.

Experience authentic chamber music performed on baroque instruments, music aiming to draw in the listener to an emotional, personal, relevant musical experience far away from High Church Renaissance, instead celebrating music on a human scale.

Featuring some of Australia’s top performers led by violinist Ben Dollman, collaborating in an intimate performance, exhilarating chamber music with baroque style by the Masters including Handel, Vivaldi and more in ‘A People’s Art’.

“violinist Ben Dollman and oboist Celia Craig ... brought grace and artistry to each of their solos, finely supported by harpsichordist Glenys March. Craig’s baroque oboe formed an eloquent counterpart...” - Graham Strahle, The Australian, Dec 2020.
