Art of Grieving Workshop

The Art of Grieving is a workshop series, using creative rituals, visual and written expression, within a group setting, to explore the experience of grief.

It is about taking time out to honour yourself, learn and even have some fun, while breaking down the myths around grief and overcoming the silence, confusion and shame that can occur with any significant loss in our lives.

We invite you to join the Art of Grieving group to find a supportive and caring space. Together we will learn, reflect, sew, weave, paint, draw, photograph, write, sculpt or build our lives back together.

We all grieve. We do not all grieve about the same things or in the same way, but we all grieve and when we do it together it makes the invisible visible and the unbearable, bearable.

No artistic skills are required, just a willingness to heal, help others, explore and learn.

Art materials, nibbles, coffee and tea will be supplied.

It is essential that you are able to attend all workshop sessions.

About the creators

Samantha Rennie is an Art teacher, grief coach and nurse educator delivering sessions on palliative care, funeral processes, communication skills, grief processes and emotional wellbeing to healthcare professionals. She has worked for over 30 years in nursing and now focuses on her main passion which is empowering people to live a life that is authentic, compassionate and healthy through researched and practical tools.

Annie Morabito is a grief and loss counsellor and death doula. She has a Master of Counselling, Postgraduate Certificate in Loss, Grief and Trauma Counselling, Advanced Diploma in Transpersonal Art Therapy, Diploma of Counselling and a Diploma of Intuitive Spiritual Healing. Annie has a great passion for the healing arts as she has witnessed and experienced many times the benefits of processing grief, loss and trauma through creativity in its many forms.

Francis Icasiano is instigator and one of the coordinators of the workshop series. Founder of Beyond Words, a not-for-profit community of volunteer biographers in aged care he has coordinated projects in end-of-life healthcare and is passionate about building empathy, community and spaces for creative expression.
