Description

This two-hour art therapy workshop is designed to provide women and gender diverse people with disability an opportunity to slow down, connect with others, and explore self-care and self-love through creative expression. Participants will move freely between a series of creative stations, each offering a different heart-making technique using a variety of materials and processes. Activities may include origami hearts, miniature acrylic paintings on canvas, collage, watercolour, textiles, decorated wooden hearts, and mixed-media creations, allowing everyone to participate at their own pace and according to their interests and abilities.

Each heart will represent something that nurtures wellbeing—a person, place, memory, strength, or simple act of self-care. By creating multiple hearts rather than a single artwork, participants will build a personal collection of reminders of what supports them during difficult times. The workshop concludes with the option of contributing one heart to a collaborative community artwork, celebrating connection, belonging, and the message that caring for ourselves and each other helps build stronger, more resilient communities.

If you have any specific needs or require accommodations to fully participate, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We want to ensure that everyone feels comfortable and supported. You are more than welcome to bring a support person however resources are only for Y Connect participants. If you have any questions, please contact the Y Connect Program Coordinator, Francene Bain on 0482 166 154 or email francene.bain@ywca.org.au.
