EDV Art Therapy Workshop - online (evening)

EDV’s 6-week art therapy workshops aim to encourage connection to self, others and the world, through art activities aimed at noticing values, our connection to others and reconnecting with interests and strengths.  

Each art workshop will be facilitated by a qualified art therapist and co-facilitated by an EDV lived experience staff member.

This workshop will run online via Zoom. Please see below for a list of suggested art resources to bring along for this workshop.

Our weekly activities are: 

  • Week 1: Welcome to the group and setting the scene

  • Week 2: Connection to our values - art activity

  • Week 3: Connection to self - art activity

  • Week 4: Connection to others - postcard activity

  • Week 5: Reflections - sharing of artwork piece

  • Week 6: Connection with the outer world - art activity. Closing activity.

When are the sessions for the workshop run?

This online art therapy workshop will run every Tuesday for six weeks from 6:00pm-7:15pm.

Session 1: Tuesday 22 July

Session 2: Tuesday 29 July

Session 3: Tuesday 5 August

Session 4: Tuesday 12 August

Session 5: Tuesday 19 August

Session 6: Tuesday 26 August

Who can join this workshop?

Participants need to be 18 years of age or over, currently experiencing an eating disorder and be connected with a GP. Participants must read and acknowledge the engagement agreement when registering.

Do I have to attend all six weeks of the workshop? 

We encourage you to attend all six weeks in order to build a sense of connection and community with other participants. 

What materials do I need to bring?

Please bring along any drawing materials you have or prefer to use. These could include: 

  • A4 or A3 sketchbook or loose sheets of paper  

  • Coloured pencils or textas

  • Paints or oil pastels  

  • Paintbrushes 

  • A jar or cup of water  

  • Rag or paper towels  

Other optional materials include glue, scissors, magazines or old books and newspapers for making a collage or any other mixed media (eg, glitter, tape, etc). If you require any materials, you are welcome to come into EDV and borrow some from EDV. Please email wellbeingprogram@eatingdisorders.org.au so we can organise this for you.

About our facilitator

Alexandra (Alex), she/her - Art Therapist 

Alex is a compassionate, person-centred art therapist with a special focus on supporting individuals in their eating disorder recovery journey. Alongside professional training, Alex brings lived experience of recovery, which deepens their commitment to creating a safe, non-judgemental space for others. Through creative expression and curiosity, Alex helps people reconnect with their inner strengths, values and self-compassion. Their approach weaves together trauma-informed care, Polyvagal Theory and Internal Family Systems to honour each person’s unique story and pace of healing.
