Event description

Learn to compose illustrations with paper and paint!

This is a skills-based art workshop exploring how to illustrate using collage. We’ll start by experimenting with creating different textures on paper, playing with paint, pencils, crayons and printing. We'll look at some of our favourite collage artists for inspiration and ideas, thinking about how they create their illustrations. Next, we’ll create some mini studies to help us understand how to break down an image into collage elements. After we have some skills and ideas under our belt, we’ll create our own scene, experimenting with drafting up different compositions and learning how to layer elements.

This workshop is designed for young artists aged 7 - 11. We have two teaching artists in every workshop and cap participants at 15 students, meaning there is plenty of one-on-one support.

To note:

  • Parents/guardians will be asked to sign children in upon arrival and provide a contact number for the day. Children must be picked up from the workshop by a parent/guardian.
  • Art making is messy! Please wear clothes that are not precious.
  • Snacks are welcomed.
