Art & Religion: Faces of God
Description
Arts in the Valley
invites you to a special Guest Talk with local Kangaroo Valley resident Dr Paul Gwynne:
ART & RELIGION: The Faces of God.
What does God look like? The answer to this question naturally varies from religion to religion, reflecting both striking differences and surprising similarities. One way to gain insight into these answers is through the artwork of the holy place.
This talk examines the sacred imagery of the Islamic mosque, Jewish synagogue, Christian church, Hindu mandir and Buddhist temple, each of which powerfully reveals deeper ideas about the nature of divinity.
Dr Paul Gwynne gained his doctorate from the Gregorian University, Rome, and has over 40 years' experience teaching theology and religious studies at the Melbourne College of Divinity and the University of NSW. He has published four books in the field: Special Divine Action (1996); World Religions in Practice (2007); Buddha, Jesus and Muhammad (2013); Sexism in Major Religions (2024).
Join us for this insightful discussion and gain a deeper understanding of the artwork behind the religion. Refreshments will be served and drinks available for purchase.
