Wild Textures:Articulating Nature on Clay

Develop techniques for creating and attaching intricate, nature-inspired textures to a pre-prepared ceramic vessel in this immersive, hands-on workshop.

The session begins with a technical demonstration, where you’ll learn how to form and apply sculptural surface details to clay. You’ll then join a guided walk through the garden, gathering natural materials and textures to inspire your design approach.

Returning to the studio, you’ll work on decorating a pre-prepared vessel using the elements you’ve collected. Throughout the session, you’ll be supported with step-by-step demonstrations and personalised guidance, helping you translate your ideas into a resolved surface.

The workshop concludes with a relaxed group discussion, offering the opportunity to share your work, reflect on your process, and learn from others.

About the Artist
Jay is a Mullumbimby-based ceramic artist working from her studio, Jay Ceramics. Her practice explores surface, texture, and layering, using clay as a canvas for pattern and mark-making. Through her workshops, she supports participants to confidently combine form and surface while developing their own creative voice.

Materials and Equipment
All materials and equipment are provided, including bisque firing. Work will be ready for collection after bisque firing.

Please bring an apron and wear closed-toe shoes, as the workshop takes place in an active studio environment.
