Artificial intelligence and creativity : the role of Copyright

We are delighted to welcome Professor Matthew Sag of Emory University in the United States for an ‘in-conversation’ special event for the Australian creative, technology, media and telecommunications industries.

This will be an interactive session, with attendees encouraged to discuss and debate 2023’s key issues around content, artificial intelligence and intellectual property. 

Professor Matthew Sag is Professor of Law, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Data Science at Emory University Law School. Professor Sag is an expert in copyright law and intellectual property. He is a leading U.S. authority on the fair use doctrine in copyright law in jurisdictions where it applies and its implications for researchers in the fields of text data mining, machine learning and AI. He testified to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on Intellectual Property in relation to copyright and Generative AI in July 2023.

The discussion will be moderated by Simon Newcomb, Partner at Clayton Utz. Simon is a technology transactions lawyer and advises on intellectual property management, commercialisation and other commercial transactions.
