Happy Meals and Scooter Skids: art from the outer suburbs

Happy Meals and Scooter Skids: art from the outer suburbs, presented by Andy Quilty with Western Australian high school students and FORM Building a State of Creativity is part of this year's Perth Festival program.

The creativity, innovation and unique character of Western Australia’s outer suburbs are the focus of this collaboration between acclaimed artist and educator Andy Quilty and students from three of Perth’s outer suburban high schools: Youth Futures Community School Midland, Armadale Senior High School and Warnbro Community High School. During 2024, students participated in workshops with Quilty, developing their skills, conceptual knowledge and confidence to share, through creative forms, their outer suburban experience.

The results of this collaboration are showcased at FORM Gallery in Happy Meals and Scooter Skids, alongside a satellite exhibition at Midland Junction Arts Centre. Happy Meals and Scooter Skids will then tour to the Kim Fletcher Gallery in Armadale, and finally to Rockingham, Quilty's hometown.

This project aims to amplify under-represented stories, improve arts access for outer-suburban communities and encourage young people to consider future careers in creative industries.
