What is an artist book?

An artist’s book is a medium of artistic expression that uses the form or function of the “book” as inspiration. Rather than simply containing art, the book itself becomes the artwork. Artists’ books embrace a range of approaches often experimenting with different materials to offer new ideas and interpretations of the world.

Workshop with Claire Brach

Join artist Claire Brach as she shares the technique of Japanese stab binding for decorative stitching when making a small soft-cover notebook.

All materials will be provided and everyone will have their own stitched piece to take home.

Limited spaces, bookings essential.

Originally from England, Claire Brach has lived in several countries including Thailand and Japan, finally settling in Australia. Since childhood she has been stitching, playing with fabrics, paper, paints and inks but her primary interest lies in colour, design, composition and construction of unique art pieces.

Her skills include a wide array of both traditional and contemporary hand stitching, building dimensional structures, creative surface design, artist book development and a range of print-making techniques. These days she is fully immersed in paper and print-making and creative artists books and enjoys the constant challenges these bring her.
