Join curator Sarah Rees in conversation with artist Anna May Kirk whose work is currently on display in the Eucalyptusdom exhibition at the Powerhouse.

In this 45-minute webinar Sarah and Anna May will discuss Anna May’s art practice, including her influences, evocative use of materials. They will also discuss the relationship between artist and curator and the development of her Eucalyptusdom commission.

This webinar is designed for staff and volunteers of smaller museums and the collecting sector. 

Anna May Kirk creates sculptural glass and sensory installations that engage the beholder’s body as a sensitive and porous instrument for encountering the magnitude of environmental change.

In her research-based practice, Kirk entangles references to vast times, intensities and scales of our transforming planetary condition, often investigating past moments of climatic change throughout Earth’s history in order to speculate on the uncertain future. She is interested in the representational issue posed by the immaterial and spectral nature of Anthropogenic climate change.

Sarah Rees is a curator at the Powerhouse whose inquiry is currently focused on curatorial modes for interdisciplinary practice. She also has a keen interest in architecture. She has worked across multi-arts projects for leading cultural institutions and was the inaugural Curator, Contemporary Art at Sydney Opera House. In 2020, Rees joined the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences as curator for Eucalyptusdom.
