Sharing of Performance in Development - FREE to attend
Artist in Residence will be sharing performance in development
Maggie Barker, Vivid Roots Collective resident artist at Lyth Arts Centre, will be sharing her performance in development. There will be space at the end to give feedback to her.
The Selkie’s last tale considers what it means to be a modern Scot in a world that brings together time, place and species. Set on a highland beach, between high and low tide lines, scratch night exerts feature the selkie’s two worlds meeting as her
experiences and stories bridge the gap between land-based humans and the realm of the deep Marine. In this liminal space traditional North Atlantic costal stories and Hebridean folk song from past generations mingle with experimental marine sound and ideas of hope for the future in a growing connection between humans and the
species of the sea.

Maggie Barker

Maggie’s practice addresses sense of place in modern Scottish communities by exploring tradition, culture and relationship with the other-than-human environment. She explores these themes through writing and performance art, sound based installation and traditional folklore and song. Her current performance work uses Selkie tales to interrogate modern perspectives on ecological collaboration with the marine.
