See Birrarung Through an Artist's Eyes
Join Annee Miron and Forest Keegel from Overlapping Collective for a guided artist-led walk along the Birrarung that invites you to slow down, observe closely and connect with the beauty of the riparian environment.
As you wander in the wetlands beside the river, you'll be encouraged to notice the small details that are often overlooked, from native plants and wildlife to the textures, patterns and rhythms of the landscape.
Using chalk on blackboard or charcoal on paper, you'll be encouraged to activate your sense of play, using art as a way of seeing, observing and connecting with the Birrarung and the creatures that call it home.
No drawing experience is required. All materials, clipboards and drawing supplies will be provided, just bring your curiosity and a willingness to look a little closer.
Whether you're an experienced artist or simply looking for a mindful way to experience the river, this creative walk offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature through observation, creativity and conversation.
This event is proudly hosted by Overlapping Collective. To learn more about their work, visit their website here.
Before you book…
Most Riverfest events are free, and many have limited places with long waitlists. Please only book if you're confident you can attend, so others don't miss out. Bookings are limited to 2 tickets for smaller events and 4 tickets for larger events.
Can't make it? Please cancel your ticket by opening your Humanitix confirmation email and selecting 'Manage Order'. Your place will then be released to someone on the waitlist. If you need assistance, contact us by email: riverfest@yarrariver.org.au
Events will proceed unless severe weather or other unforeseen circumstances require a change. If this happens, registered participants will be notified by email.
Accessibility
This is a short, leisurely walk with plenty of opportunities to stop, observe and draw. The route follows uneven ground, including grass, gravel and unsealed dirt paths. The event is suitable for ambulant participants, off-road wheelchairs and those comfortable navigating natural terrain.
Getting there: Please park on View Street and walk down to the wetlands. The meeting point is on the Yarra side of the tennis court—look for the pink ribbons.
Toilets: The nearest public and accessible toilets are located at Alphington Park, approximately a 5-minute walk from the meeting point.
What to bring: Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring a raincoat or waterproof mat to sit on while stopping to draw.
Terrain: Please be aware that the site can be muddy and slippery, particularly after wet weather. We will be walking on unsealed paths, grass and other uneven natural surfaces.
If you require an accessible parking space to be reserved or have any accessibility questions, please let us know when booking and we'll be happy to assist.
