Artist Talk - Design Divas Group
Description
Artist talk: The Design Divas Group
Join us for a fascinating session where three of the artists will take us through their preparation for their "Doorknobs - a textile journey" exhibition.
What is a doorknob, and where can it lead? Suganthi Singarayar explores how an Art Nouveau architectural feature inspired her stitched artwork Curves in Motion. She’ll share her creative process, fascination with curves, and the journey of transforming architectural inspiration into stitch, alongside insights into her other works in the exhibition.
Teresa Valenti interrogates the portrayal and treatment of women and girls, confronting gendered violence and what was once “kept behind closed doors.” In Aperture: Letting in the Light, she combines sourced text, vintage fabrics and stitch. Teresa will discuss her research and creative process, including reading, mind mapping, sampling and construction, with technique samples provided.
Barbara Wieckowski shares her textile journey and the inspiration behind this exhibition, including childhood songs that influenced her artwork and their lyrics. Participants will be invited to participate in a short activity to explore creative ideas inspired by music, with all materials provided.
