Description

Artist talk: Jane Theau and Jo Mellor Stuart

Wild Things at Risk is an exhibition about beauty and wildness, loss and longing. In this talk, artists Jane and Jo will share how they use their work to celebrate the majesty of the wild world and voice their worries over its disappearance.

Many of their artworks marry the ancient, slow, considered art of embroidery with the instant satisfaction offered by the digital image. From the Tasmanian wilderness to the conflagrating NSW coast, and from the barren beauty of Broken Hill to unseen underwater habitats, these objects remind us what is at risk.

Jane Théau’s practice encompasses sculpture and installation, collaboration with performers, curation, and the facilitation of community art projects.

Jo Mellor-Stuart is an artist and PhD candidate. Her practice spans expanded textiles, installation, painting, and film, grounded in socially engaged art.

The artists will be donating their speaking fees for the event to environmental causes.
