ARTIST TALK : TIME to BURN @ no.10 : 2.30pm, 24 October 2026
Description
Join artists Peter Hill and Tania Spencer for an afternoon conversation about their practices, their experiences and the ideas behind their works, opening a conversation around the questions at the heart of TIME to BURN.
How do we manage fire? What are we protecting? And can we find more considered ways to care for our landscapes?
Drawing on more than 20 years of experience with his local fire brigade, Peter Hill’s practice has become a way of reflecting on fire, burning and the complex decisions involved in managing our forests. His works New Day, A garden full of wilderness and Latent explore the relationship between fire, community, landscape and our changing understanding of prescribed burning.
Tania Spencer’s Let Them Burn reflects on fire management across Western Australia, drawing on the history of fires in the eastern wheatbelt and the devastating impact fire can have on the unique ecosystems of places such as Fitzgerald River National Park. Her work considers the competing perspectives and challenges surrounding fire as both a management tool and a force of nature.
