Description

Join us at Bowhouse on 22nd August, 2:00 pm, for a beginners’ cyanotype workshop with Angela Chalmers, whose cameraless photography practice explores memory, femininity and material traces inspired by Anna Atkins, transforming fabric and botanical forms into poetic blue imprints that connect past and present. Those who attended Cally's morning workshop are welcome to bring along seaweed paper provided by Cally and use it as the surface for their cyanotypes, adding a further layer to their work. Places are limited to 10-12 participants per activity, and children aged 8 and over can take part with parental supervision.

Angela Chalmers is a British artist based in North Yorkshire whose cyanotype-based practice explores memory and femininity. Chalmers uses cameraless photography to consider how objects can hold emotion and personal histories. As Artist-in-Residence at St Martin-on-the-Hill, Scarborough, she investigates traces of history embedded in landscape, architecture and memory. Her Stocking series uses worn, laddered stockings to create intimate cyanotype photograms, exploring vulnerability, sensuality and the complexities of feminine experiences.
