Help us close 70 Seeds with Energy Made Visible: Visions of Our Jewish Futures, a creative, reflective workshop led by exhibiting artist Olivia Guterson. The workshop is presented as part of 70 Seeds, a group exhibition imagining vibrant, pluralistic Jewish life in the United States in the year 2070, exactly 2,000 years after the fall of the Second Temple.
Through text study, art making, reflection, and witnessing, participants will explore hopes, questions, and possibilities for Jewish futures while witnessing one another’s diverse perspectives.
Utilizing the Open Studio Process, a practice that brings together intention-setting, art making, and reflective writing, Olivia invites participants to create in a welcoming, non-judgmental environment where every work is valued as an expression of personal and collective imagination. During the exhibition’s final weekend, surrounded by the work of artists who have spent the past two weeks inviting us to imagine Jewish life nearly 50 years from now, this session offers a chance to add our own visions to the conversation, and to carry them forward as the exhibition comes to a close.
Please arrive on time, as the workshop will begin promptly at 1:00 PM. After the workshop wraps around 2:30 PM, participants are welcome to stay and explore the exhibition until 3:30 PM.
No prior Jewish text study is required, and all ages and artistic levels are welcome. Come as you are! All materials will be provided.
This event is free and open to the public; however, RSVPs are required due to capacity constraints. Donations to support the exhibition and future programming are welcome and appreciated.
Olivia Guterson is a Black and Jewish multi-disciplinary artist and mother who engages in painting, sculpture, and carework. Exploring themes of brokenness, refusal, and fugitivity, she choreographs bones, shells, beads, seeds, soil, and colors into textures, gestures, and rhythms. In her offerings, she explores the relationship between nature, memory, and ancestral wisdom as we collectively move towards uncertainty and always, possibility. She has been awarded the Beau Award and the Gilbert Fellowship. She’s held residencies at Tyrrell Winston’s DTW, McArthur Binion’s Modern Ancient Brown; Buffalo Prescott, Sibyls Shrine, and more. Her work has been shown at the Cranbrook Art Museum, Arab American National Museum, The Wright, The Shepherd, Louis Buhl & Co., Future Fair, Art Basel, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, and more.
The Judeofuturism Project is a multidisciplinary initiative supporting Jewish futures rooted in imagination, resilience, and collective thriving. We ask: What becomes possible beyond survival? How can communities think long-term? And what can Jewish wisdom offer a world in transformation? The Judeofuturism Project believes Jewish communities have always been futures-builders. Our mission is to recover, practice, and amplify that capacity, connecting the people, tools and ideas needed to strengthen our infrastructure of imagination for this moment and beyond
