Event description

Join in for a conversation between artists Trent Jansen, Errol Barnes and Tanya Singer as they discuss their collaborative sculptural work on display in CMAG's Materiality exhibition.

Designer-maker Trent Jansen was invited by Errol Evans a Djabugay and Western Yalanji man and Tanya Singer a Minyma Anangu woman , both noted artist-makers in punu - the Pitjantjatjara word for ‘living wood’ - to come to Railway Bore, their studio near the homeland community of Induluka in South Australia, to begin a process of collaboration in 2020. The making of their Kurunpa Kunpu /Strong Spirit group of furniture took place over three years, navigating distance and lockdowns with openness and deep listening. In a process they described as ‘call and response’ they sought to not only generate new sculptural forms of furniture, but to express concern for the drying of their already dry country.
