Event description

At Mama Respond, we understand that parenting a child with disability comes with unique challenges and immense strength. That’s why Arts Unbound is designed as a space for connection, creativity, and care - for both parents and children.

While your child participates in guided, therapeutic art workshops designed to support emotional regulation, build coping strategies, and promote independence and well-being, you’ll have the opportunity to take a breath and connect with other parents who truly understand your journey.

Our parent sessions provide a space to recharge, share experiences, and engage in supportive, facilitated discussions on topics that matter most to you - from navigating support systems to self-care and advocacy. Topics and activities are decided by the group to really make sure the program is relevant to you.

The kids' sessions are packed with creative exploration - from clay sculpting and rock painting to circus skills and sensory art. Each activity is carefully designed to meet a range of needs and abilities, helping children build confidence, develop coping strategies, and enjoy the freedom of creative play. Together, you and your child can thrive in parallel, each supported in your own journey within a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment.

Outcomes:

Respite opportunity:

Arts Unbound provides parents with a dedicated space to step back from their daily caregiving responsibilities and take a moment for themselves. While their children are safely engaged in creative and therapeutic activities, parents can enjoy the opportunity to rest, reflect, and recharge - whether through meaningful conversation, gentle creative expression, or simply the chance to breathe in a calm, welcoming environment.

Well-being promotion:

The program is grounded in promoting emotional well-being for both parents and children. Children participate in guided art workshops that promote emotional regulation, independence, and self-expression through activities such as clay modelling, circus skills, and sensory play. At the same time, parents participate in supportive discussions that address mental health, self-care, and navigating the unique challenges of parenting a child with disability—building resilience and confidence along the way.

Community development:

Arts Unbound cultivates a strong sense of community by bringing together families with shared experiences. Through facilitated peer support and open discussion, parents form support networks that extend beyond the sessions. Your child will experience inclusive group environments that encourage cooperation, communication, and social development - helping every participant feel seen, understood, and uplifted.

Upcoming Topics:

September 21st: continence and toilet training with a Registered Nurse from Kalkoup Community Care.
