Join us at our next Asia After Five to hear from leading economic commentator Brad Olsen and senior solicitor Millie Morgan about their recent research trip to China, exploring this economic powerhouse.

Their visit, supported by the Foundation, included trips to video platform content creation studios, dairy and donkey factories and discussions with producers and businesses on the ground about how the Chinese economy is evolving. As New Zealand’s largest trading partner, these changing trends are important to discuss as they shape our future trade.

Brad, who has also recently returned from a trip to Japan, will discuss the current state of two of the largest economies on earth.

The event will follow our popular Asia After Five format — where we blend Asia-focused discussion with an evening of drinks, nibbles and making connections.

1. Millie Morgan

Millie Morgan, a senior solicitor at Cooper Rapley Lawyers, specialises in Agribusiness and forestry, striving to be a trusted advisor to clients in the evolving sector. Beyond her legal career, she manages a sheep and beef block in Tauraua district with her partner. Millie's journey started in the innovation space at the University of Canterbury, and her interest in China grew after receiving a Prime Minister's Scholarship. She founded a consultancy facilitating Kiwi SMEs in Chinese cross-border e-commerce. A member of the Asia New Zealand Foundation Leadership Network and 25 to watch, Millie's passion lies in exploring the NZ-China relationship, particularly in agribusiness and consumer expectations.

2. Brad Olsen

Brad Olsen is the Chief Executive and Principal Economist at Infometrics, a leading economic commentator in New Zealand. With extensive networks across business, media and community sectors, Brad integrates diverse perspectives and emerging trends to advise key decision-makers nationwide. A member of the Asia New Zealand Foundation Leadership Network and 25 to watch, Brad actively participates in forums and visits to China and Japan to deepen his understanding of economic dynamics. Recognised for his community leadership, Brad is among New Zealand’s youngest Justices of the Peace and has been honoured as New Zealand’s Queen’s Young Leader in 2016 and Young Wellingtonian of the Year 2020.
