Asia House Briefing with Amir Hamzah Azizan, Malaysia’s Minister of Finance II
Event description
Amir Hamzah Azizan, Malaysia’s Minister of Finance II, will be in London on Friday, 24 October, to brief Asia House Corporate Members on the economy of Malaysia.
Malaysia’s solid economic outlook indicates restored market faith in the country after years of political instability. This new-found market confidence has created a more favourable policy environment in Malaysia: the administration has introduced several measures to boost revenue and productivity, including a minimum-wage hike and an expanded sales and services tax. Measures like fuel price caps aim to ease the cost of living for Malaysians, while infrastructural projects, like the expansion of 5G capabilities and a focus on digital transformation, aim to strengthen Malaysia’s long-term growth.
As Minister of Finance II, Azizan will offer real-time, exclusive insights on the Malaysian economy and opportunities for businesses as one of its key decision makers. He will discuss Malaysia’s expanded sustainability strategy, its push towards digitalisation, and will reflect on Malaysia’s role as ASEAN Chair in 2025.
Previously Azizan was the CEO of Employees Provident Fund (EPF). He has over 27 years of corporate experience across Malaysia, Singapore, and the UK, and has held senior leadership positions at companies such as Shell Group, PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad, and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).
The session will be moderated by Michael Lawrence OBE, Chief Executive of Asia House. Places are limited, and Asia House corporate members will have priority access.
