Asia House Briefing with Dominic Jermey, the UK Ambassador to Indonesia
Event description
The UK Ambassador to Indonesia, Dominic Jermey, will brief Asia House Corporate Members on the current situation in Indonesia at an exclusive private session on 9 October.
Indonesia was rocked by violent protests last month over perks for politicians, with 10 people killed. President Prabowo Subianto sacked five ministers including Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, highly regarded internationally for her fiscal prudence. The President has just appointed former rival, retired general Djamari Chaniago, as coordinating minister for politics and security, as part of a series of moves to consolidate power.
Corporate Members will have the opportunity to hear directly from Ambassador Jermey about the situation on the ground in Indonesia. The Ambassador will also discuss the future of UK–Indonesia relations following the announcement of plans to sign a new Strategic Partnership to elevate the relationship.
Before his current role, Jermey was Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates from 2010 to 2014 and Afghanistan from 2016 to 2017.
The session will be moderated by Michael Lawrence OBE, Chief Executive of Asia House. Places are limited, and Asia House corporate members will have priority access.
