Description
Join the Asian Cinema Collective for a special screening of Lust, Caution (2007) at Eclipse Cinema!
From the Forbidden City, to a new life in Montreal, Joan Chen has been gracing our screens for over forty years. From iconic roles in Saving Face and The Last Emperor, to her most recent films Montreal, My Beautiful this November we are so excited to dive into Joan’s filmography and celebrate her incredible career!
About the Film
During World War II, a young student (Tang Wei) is drawn into a resistance plot to assassinate Mr Yee (Tony Leung), an official working for the Japanese puppet government in Shanghai. Posing as the glamorous Mrs Mak, she befriends his wife, Mrs Yee (Joan Chen), and is welcomed into the couple's home and the mahjong circle of collaborator wives - bringing her ever closer to her target. But her mission becomes clouded when she finds herself falling for the man she is assigned to kill.
Chen plays Mrs Yee, the poised and watchful wife at the centre of Shanghai's high society, in a sharp supporting turn that keeps us guessing how much she really sees.
