Description
Join the Asian Cinema Collective for a special screening of Saving Face (2004) at Eclipse Cinema!
From the Forbidden City, to a new life in Montreal, Joan Chen has been gracing our screens for over forty years. From iconic roles in Saving Face and The Last Emperor, to her most recent films Montreal, My Beautiful this November we are so excited to dive into Joan’s filmography and celebrate her incredible career!
About the Film
Wil (Michelle Krusiec) is a lesbian, but she not dare tell her widowed mother, Hwei-lan (Joan Chen), or her very traditional grandparents. She's shocked, however, to find out she's not the only one in her family with romantic secrets when she learns that her 48-year-old mother is pregnant. Unwilling to reveal who the father is, Hwei-lan is kicked out of her parents' home and must move in with Wil, which puts a strain on Wil's budding relationship with openly gay Vivian (Lynn Chen).
Chen stars as Hwei-lan, Wil's proud and stubborn mother, in a warm, funny and quietly moving performance that has become one of her most beloved roles.
