About the Film

We follow the tumultuous life of Pu Yi, the last emperor of China, from his coronation as a toddler in the Forbidden City - where, long after his forced abdication in 1912, a new English tutor opens his mind to the world beyond its walls - to his reinvention as Japan's puppet emperor of Manchukuo, and finally his years as a prisoner of the new People's Republic.

Chen stars as Wanrong, Pu Yi's wife, in the role that brought her international acclaim after her early stardom in China.

About the Asian Cinema Collective

The Asian Cinema Collective (ACC) was born out of a need for community and an opportunity to share our love for Asian cinema with fellow filmgoers in Melbourne. Open to all, the ACC is a place for both the diaspora and fans of films made in Asia, or films featuring predominantly Asian experiences and stories.

Please be aware that photography and videography may take place at our events. Images and footage may be used on our social media channels, website and promotional materials.

If you'd prefer not to be photographed, please let our team know on the night and we'll do our best to accommodate you. You're also welcome to reach out to us at hello@asiancinemacollective.com if you have any concerns.

By attending an ACC event, you consent to being photographed or filmed.
