Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)

Virtually anyone age 16 or older, regardless of prior experience or training, can become an ASIST-trained helper. During the two-day interactive workshop, participants learn a 6-task suicide first-aid model through powerful audio visual learning aids, group discussions, skills practice and development through trainer-facilitated workgroups. Millions of people have taken the workshop worldwide, along with hundreds of thousands of Australians completing ASIST in all states and territories.

Participants in ASIST:
- Learn the skills to confidently provide a suicide first-aid intervention
- Develop a personalised safety plan for someone with thoughts of suicide to keep them“safe-for-now”
- Connect the person with thoughts of suicide to further help
- Acquire skills in an evidence-based intervention model, with the assistance of two LivingWorks registered trainers

What do participants say?

Great course. Well supported through whole course despite heavy topic. Managed to build up confidence and giving lots of practical pointers to my work.

I felt that the presenters were authentic, I felt that they brought relevant experience and were credible. I do not think that the PD would have been as effective if it was any old joe blow presenting, it needs to be someone that has "lived it."

I found that the ASIST course took away the fear and the stigma around asking someone if they are thinking about suicide.
