Thu, Nov 12, 9am - Fri, Nov 13, 5pm EST

Description

Are you expected to help people in crisis or struggling to cope with life’s challenges?

Learn how to comfortably and competently work with those who are feeling desperate, hopeless, and thinking of suicide. LivingWorks ASIST is an evidence-based 2-day intensive and interactive workshop designed to build skills in a person-centered approach to de-escalate a suicidal situation and construct a safety plan. Conversations with those thinking of suicide require skill and collaboration. Safety plans are critical to keeping those at risk of suicide safe in case mental health services are delayed or not obtained.

At ASIST you will learn how to engage someone who is thinking of suicide, apply a structured suicide intervention model, and collaboratively develop a safe plan. Suicide intervention requires respect and care, focusing on the person thinking of suicide, rather than our own agenda, helping them come to their own decision that they want to stay safe from suicide.

In any given year, 17-20 million people experience suicidal thoughts--more than will experience symptoms of a heart attack. Just as "CPR" skills make physical first aid possible, training in suicide first aid helps by de-escalating a suicide situation and getting people with suicide thoughts help that they want and need.

Participants must attend both days, the full day – November 12th & 13th, 9:00am - 5:00pm

NOTE: A grant from Northeast Indiana Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is generously underwriting the cost of this training for certified/licensed health care and mental health providers and students in those fields. If you meet these criteria, contact Tracey Wilkinson to receive a code for a discounted ticket: tracey.wilkinson507@gmail.com
