Ask a Mycologist: Fungi and Climate
Event description
Join mycologist Christopher Smith for a fascinating foray into the wonders of mycology!
Mycology translates as the 'study of fungi' a group that covers mushrooms and yeasts.
OUTLINE
- Spend 30 minutes learning about a particular fungi species.
- This session we will be looking at Mycorrhizae (pictured below) including their role in carbon sequestration.
- Then 30 minutes Q&A time where you can ask a fungi-related burning question. This may also include fungi ID.
- Ending with 5 minutes where Christopher will discuss how to get your grow kit growing!

Christopher Smith, aka The Mushroom Smith started in 2017 selling small Phoenix Oyster grow kits at farmers markets.
After getting his Masters in Biology at Auckland University he worked at Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research as a technician in the Mycology team.
His current mahi is focused on education of our community, growing edible mushrooms and researching our amazing native harore.
