Assembling Vessels with Slabs

Assembling Vessels with Slabs is an intermediate to advanced hand-building workshop focused on exploring slab construction to create geometric and structurally resolved ceramic forms. The session investigates the expressive potential of edges, corners, and joins, with emphasis on how clay behaves at different stages of dryness. Participants will work with soft to leather-hard clay, assembling components to produce vessels with distinct character and form variation. Each participant will complete at least two vessels, supported through demonstration, guided making, discussion, and group critique.

About the Artist
Suvira is a seasoned potter and ceramic maker with extensive experience in hand-built forms and skills development teaching. With an MA from Southern Cross University during its period as a highly active creative hub, his practice reflects a grounded, material-led approach to ceramics. Suvira teaches infrequently, making this workshop a rare opportunity to engage with an “old school” transmission of ceramic knowledge focused on direct making and process.

Materials and Equipment
Basic hand tools are required, including a toothbrush, blade, and paddle. Additional glaze firing costs apply.

Please bring a snack, water bottle, and appropriate clothing for studio work.
