Training Objectives: The purpose of the Asset Based Community Development Training is to equip youth organisations, local service providers and nonprofits in your community with the knowledge and skills to effectively use the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) methodology in youth consultations, co-designing programs with young people as well as thinking out of the box when it comes to creating innovative programs that suit youth and community needs.


Training Content: The workshop will cover the following topics:

1. Introduction to ABCD Methodology: Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of the Asset-Based Community Development approach, its principles, and its relevance in fostering youth and community engagement and empowerment.

2. Case Studies: Real-world examples and success stories of ABCD implementation will be shared to provide practical insights into how the methodology has been used effectively in diverse youth and community contexts.

3. Interactive Activities: The training will incorporate some interactive activities, including:

a. Asset Mapping: Teaching participants how to identify and leverage existing assets and resources within the community to address challenges and come up with ideas and prototypes moving forward

b. World Café: Facilitating conversations and idea sharing among participants to foster creativity and generate actionable strategies.

c. Other Engaging Activities: Tailored exercises to help professionals apply ABCD concepts in real-world scenarios.


Morning tea and light refreshments provided (BYO lunch).

MEET THE TRAINER:

Dimitrios Papalexis, the founder of Soulgen, will serve as the consultant and facilitator for this workshop. Mr. Papalexis is an award-winning youth and community development consultant with expertise in Asset-Based Community Development, Storytelling, and Arts. He has a distinguished track record of collaborating with local government, NGOs, and diverse industries to drive place-based and participatory social change and impact.

In addition to his extensive experience, Mr. Papalexis's creative work, including storytelling projects showcasing community resilience, creativity, and strengths, aligns with the core principles of the ABCD approach. His recognition as the 2019 NSW Youth Worker of the Year and receipt of the Score More Foundation's 2020 Cause for Applause appreciation award demonstrates his dedication to making a difference in the community, especially during challenging times like the COVID-19 pandemic.
