Join us for our Assistive Technology Fundamentals training, where you’ll gain an in-depth understanding of how assistive and adaptive technology is used by millions of people with disability to navigate the digital world.
This course is designed to equip you with the knowledge needed to create more accessible digital environments, including practical guidance on how to use assistive technology when testing for key accessibility principles within websites and digital content.
You’ll gain practical insights into how assistive technology, such as screen readers, operate and learn how accessible content creation and development is essential to ensuring these technologies work effectively.
Time and Date
This training course consists of two 2 hour sessions:
- Session 1:Â Wed 13th November - 12pm-2pm (AEDT)Â
- Session 2: Wed 20th November - 12pm-2pm (AEDT)
Both sessions will be held virtually using Microsoft Teams.

An introduction to digital accessibility exploring types of disability and the Web Content Accessibility guidelines.
- A brief look at how assistive technology has evolved over time.
- The difference between adaptive and assistive technologies.
- How people use a variety of assistive technologies such as braille displays, switch devices, vision assistance technology and screen readers.
- How to use a desktop and mobile screen reader.
- The fundamentals of keyboard accessibility.
