    Event description

ASTER celebrates the joys of Springtime and being in the garden with this concert.  The title refers to a poem by Robert Frost in which a young girl asks her father “to give her a garden plot to plant and tend and reap herself.  Join us in the garden and you will hear a bird’s lullaby, be delighted by a Japanese song about fireflies and a Swedish folksong reminding us that “Now is the time for living”.

The centerpiece of ASTER’s April concert is American Composer Vincent Persichetti’s “Spring Cantata” which sets E. E. Cummings'  poetry.  By turns mystical and playful it will be enhanced by Sara Love’s reading of these poems.

ASTER will offer selections from “The Secret Garden” by composer Lucy Simon.  We hope that these pieces will bring back memories of reading that timeless classic when you were young or seeing the musical when it toured the country in the 1990s.

Other music on the concert will include “Morning Has Broken”, The Real Group’s ’Bumblebee”, the Andrews Sisters’ “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree”, and “Over the Rainbow”.
