ASTR Zine Workshop
Event description
If you could tell the story of 'now' to the future, what would that look like? Growing anti-Te Tiriti attacks, colonial occupation and violence, and collective resistance. Heightened imperial violence that has been met with strengthened solidarity movements. This political moment gives us plenty to document.
Join us at Asians Supporting Tino Rangatiratanga at this upcoming zine-making workshop and let’s co-create and share whakaaro around this political moment, and build upon our lived experiences as Asian tauiwi in Aotearoa.
What are zines?
Zines (short for magazines or fanzines) are low-cost self-published DIY magazines. They’re an accessible media form so zines are often used for vehicles for political expression. As a rōpu, ASTR also gained its roots (c. 2010) from the radical zine for Asian Aotearoa feminists, Mellow Yellow.
What will we be making?
Our creations will be curated into a zine, subtitled as an anthology from 'ASTR Pōneke'. Your contribution may look like poems & prose, writing, comics, artwork, collages etc which we will complete at the workshop (in groups, in pairs or individually).
What will be provided?
Enjoy has a photocopy we may use on site. Materials like glue, paper, markers, scissors etc will be provided. We'll also have books and other printed media available to get your creative political juices flowing - but feel free to also bring some of your own!
Tī, kawhe & lunch will be provided. The kaupapa of the space is anti-racist, anti-colonial, feminist, rainbow & trans friendly.
