Astronomy in the Parklands

Pack your picnic, torch and astronomical excitement for an evening under the stars in Western Sydney Parklands.

Under the quiet and stillness of the evening sky, you will have an opportunity to:

- View the night sky through a telescope

- Watch the layers of the evening sky develop on an iPad

- Explore projections taken from a telescope

Join us for a beautiful night of science, nature and exploration in collaboration with Macarthur Astronomical Society

BYO picnic blankets or seats (you may like to bring a torch with a red filter or red cellophane for better visibility at night)

Entry from 5PM

Astronomy Talk from 5:30PM

Stargazing from 6-8PM

Accessibility: please note that this program is accessible for less mobile visitors.

Meeting point: The Dairy Picnic Ground, Western Sydney Parklands.

Things to know before you attend 

Please come prepared, as this program takes place outdoors and will go ahead in all-weather, unless it is unsafe to do so (for example, during high winds or thunderstorms). Children must wear enclosed shoes. 

Stargazing is weather dependent. We reserve the right to cancel the event in case of dangerous weather or the weather conditions are not favourable for successful viewing, or if minimum participation numbers are not met. In these circumstances a refund will be offered. Please refer to our full terms and conditions for more information.

What to bring to the event 

Come prepared for this session by: 

• Bringing a refillable drink bottle  

• Bringing a picnic rug or chair to sit on

• Bringing a torch, for visibility after dark (red filter or red cellophane optional)

• Dressing for the weather with warm layers and wet weather gear (raincoat, shoes and change of clothes)

• Wearing enclosed footwear 

Your responsibilities if you feel unwell 

I understand that it is my responsibility to ensure that all attendees associated with this booking do not attend if: 

• We/I show any COVID-19, infectious disease or virus symptoms or feel unwell 

• We/I have had a fever, diarrhoea or vomiting within 12 hours or at the time of the program 

• We/I have been asked to self-isolate 

• We/I have had a positive COVID-19 test result and continue to have symptoms. 

If any of the above apply to you or any attendee associated with this booking, we request that you do not attend this program. In this instance, please contact us via email on education@gsp.nsw.gov.au to arrange for a refund of your ticket.
