This course is broken up into 2 parts, consisting of 3 days for Part A and 2 days for Part B, totalling 5 days as is required by WorkSafe for each participant to receive their certificate.

June 11 - 12 (Part B)

About the Course

All newly elected Health & Safety Reps (HSRs) and Deputy HSRs can attend a 5 Day HSR Initial OHS Training Course of their choice.


The ASU is a WorkSafe Approved Training Provider for HSRs. We support workers every day, so we know the industries you work in what skills and knowledge HSRs need to effectively represent workers.

With our high-quality training, HSRs and Deputy HSRs (DHSRs) will understand the OHS legislation and how it applies to them as workplace representatives. This includes how to exercises their HSR powers effectively and have the confidence skills and knowledge to be able to represent their work groups (DWGs) and make their workplaces safer.

All HSRs get paid time to attend this training and an annual one-day HSR Refresher under s67 of the Victorian OHS Act 2004.

HSR Initial OHS Training Courses are delivered by the ASU as a 5-Day Block between 9am-5pm daily. Course dates are scheduled throughout the year.

What do you learn?

HSRs and DHSRs will leave the training course with an understanding of the objectives of the OHS Act
2004 and their role under the Act, including:

OHS Legislation:

  • Interpreting the OHS legislation framework and its relationship to the HSR 
  • Identifying key parties and their legislative obligations and duties

Representation:

  • Establishing representation in the workplace
  • Representing DWG members in any OHS risk management process undertaken by the appropriate duty holder/s

Issue Resolution:

  • Participating in consultation and issue resolution
  • Using HSR Powers in the OHS Act to resolve issues on behalf of members of your DWG

Course Hours: 9am - 5pm

Course Length: 5 days total (3 days, then 2 days)

Course Fee: $950 plus GST

Participants MUST complete all 5 days of training to receive your certificate of completion.
