Lunch/Break Workshop Descriptions

Workshop 1: Fueling Strategies for the Running Athlete

This 30-minute workshop will introduce middle and high school female runners to practical nutrition strategies that help them fuel, perform, and recover with confidence. Participants will explore how to build balanced meals using performance plates with real food examples and learn how nutrient timing can optimize energy, recovery, and adaptation to training. Through realistic meal and snack ideas tailored to practice schedules, athletes will gain simple, evidence-informed tools they can use every day to support both performance and long-term health. (Jessica Arquette, Ohio U)

Workshop 2: Pre-Run Activation and Mobility

This 30-minute workshop will teach athletes practical mobility exercises that can be incorporated before (and after) running. Participants will learn a simple, evidence-informed routine designed to prepare the body for movement before a run and promote recovery afterward. The workshop will emphasize exercises that are easy to perform, require minimal equipment, and can be incorporated into individual or team practice routines. (Presented by OU Physical Therapy Students)

Workshop 3: Built for the Long Run: Promoting strength, tissue health, and faster miles without a gym

This 60-minute session will introduce coaches and athletes to practical strength training and plyometric exercises that can be integrated into year-round training. Participants will learn a simple, evidence-informed blueprint designed to improve running performance and build tissue resilience for longevity. The session will emphasize exercises that are easy to perform, require no traditional resistance equipment, and can be incorporated into individual or team training routines. (Mike Clevidence, CSCS and OU PT Students)
